A Note From the Author

After witnessing many people struggle with challenges surrounding death, I've created a message that inspires practical and proactive engagement, deeply impacting loved ones and so much more.

Having our final affairs in proper order is one of the greatest gifts of love and has significant wide-ranging benefits.

The process helps reduce the stress of aging. It tends to leave survivors more financially and emotionally resilient,  more likely to get along and less likely to contest final wishes.

The process naturally results in more meaningful legacies and often benefits charities because of the tax advantages of planned giving.

An immense burden is taken off the courts from otherwise having to deal with so many unorganized estates, and cumulatively the economy benefits.

End-of-life planning can be challenging, but considering the above, it can also be inspiring.  I believe this type of inspiration can make a world of difference.

Talking about sex will not make you pregnant, and talking about death will not make you dead.

Only about half of the adult population in Canada has a valid will, and many of those are out of date and will pose problems. Far fewer have a medical directive in place.

Many other countries also suffer with these problems and it's high time the situation improves. We can and should do better.

Our world could certainly benefit from greater resiliency, especially from a mental health perspective.

Although this message is not new, it is attracting attention. Since publishing my book in early 2023, I've been reaching out to others via LinkedIn from the financial, legal, medical, end-of-life and faith communities, stressing the above. I have over 9,000 followers and over 500 people have provided their email address, many stating this message is compelling and needs to be shared.

The solution starts with communication (the first chapter of my book) and learning end-of-life basics (the rest of my book).

End-of-life planning should not be done at the end of life.

When I was diagnosed with a large brain tumour shortly after publishing, I was very relieved that my final affairs were in order. It takes time to carefully organize our ultimate exit and this planning needs to be done while minds are clear and time is plentiful.

We owe this to our loved ones, regardless of our wealth or lack thereof.

Don't procrastinate - plan while you can.
